 Wednesday, October 11 Into Maine

Nice breakfast with Brett and Dave, then Beth & Greg take the Trek to Raymond, a mechanic at Old Center Auto Repair who has been recommended.  He first says they don't do electronics, but then takes a look at the new part and the old and says "Give me a few minutes.."  And that is all it takes!  He waves us off with no charge and we are back to charging!  Hurrah!

We bid farewell (till we're back next Friday) to North Reading and head for Maine.  It is still a little amazing to us that in just over an hour we've gone through New Hampshire and into Maine.  In Texas, particularly going west it is all Texas for 10 hours or more!  We stop at the Maine Welcome center for some current maps and information.

Next stop is Cape Neddick and Nubble Light House near the town of York.  It is only 39' tall, but because it is on a rocky island it is 88' above the Ocean!  Built in 1879 and automated in 1987, the small island includes a small red oil house and the keepers house.  Quite a few visitors.

A bucket suspended on a line across the channel was used to transport supplies to the station.  Breezy but beautiful day!

From here we head to the nearby town of Ogunquit, where Brett & Dave often vacation.  We walk the lovely trail called The Marginal Way which offers great views of beaches, rocks, birds, flowers

and some of the houses and resorts of those fortunate enough to have this view 24/7.

Lots of rose hips and a few lingering roses.  We will see them all along the coast.

We drive about 60 miles north for our first Maine State Park - Bradbury Mountain.  Rain and clouds have moved in by then.  The state parks are all closing within the next few days and we find this is the last day for Bradbury Mountain!

Hot dogs and beans for dinner.  We play some cribbage then everyone does their own thing - Gwynne does journaling every day and reads, Beth fiddles with pictures on the computer, and Greg reads.  It gets dark a little earlier this far north!
