Yesterday we had stopped at a gas station/quick market for breakfast and this morning we enjoy the huge muffins that we got there. Mine is pumpkin chocolate chip and is delicious! Generator runs, so Greg can enjoy his coffee!
We stop at Eastern Knubble Preserve thinking Little River lighthouse is around here somewhere. We find a trail and walk..and walk. but no lighthouse. We find out later that it is on a nearby island and can only be seen by boat or air.
Nice walk though, through woods and then on a rocky beach.
We find a few rocks that will make the trip to Texas and Beth finds an interesting sea urchin shell kind of thing. ??
There is a pretty harbor nearby, so we stop and walk there. Gwynne finds a restroom in a church in a pinch.
Not sure what the Save our Bay is about, but we like the buoy tree.
We go down another long peninsula to Schoodic Point. Very pretty. Some of it is part of Acadia National Park but we are across the water from Mount Desert Island and this is much less busy. Unfortunately the campground here is already closed for the year.
We pass Winter Harbor and can see the Winter Harbor Light on Mark Island.
Rocky coast - it would take me a long time to get tired of that blue sky, blue water, rocky coast with a little white surf thrown in....there is a 6 mile, one-way loop which offers some great pull-outs, especially at the point. They say it is a fantastic spot to storm watch when the surf is wild.
Here's another stop along that Loop....
Next stop is a little bit (hah, a LOT) of tourism in Bar Harbor. We find an rv parking lot and walk a few of the streets. Lots of people out and about. Lots of shops, restaurants, B&B's, etc. We weave in and out of shops and manage to find a few items to take with us.
The Harbor itself is quite picturesque.
We got the grandkids this Maine puzzle (here's when they put it together later), and Gwynne was able to find a Maine glass for her collection.
We decide to head back to Timberland Acres RV Park tonight. They close on Saturday! Nice clean showers and we go out to eat at Helen's Restaurant which had been recommended by the RV Park folks.
Greg has clams. Beth and Gwynne go for a stuffed haddock w/newburg sauce. Both are quite good!
