Thursday, September 21 COVID and fjords

Thursday, September 21

Greg is still feeling poorly this morning after a sleepless night, so we do a COVID test that we brought with us.  He is positive.  Beth takes one also and shows all clear.  I text DeeDee and she makes arrangements to have him quarantined and get meals.  I get moved to a separate room.

DeeDee is very sympathetic.  She encourages Beth to continue with the group.  Since Greg can not continue with the group, and there are no country or airline restrictions, we change his flight so that he can leave tomorrow for home.   I get Greg breakfast and the server says she is surprised that they are still doing quarantine, since the general population is just going on about their business, treating it more like a cold, as her son's girlfriend only missed one day of school.

I join the group, wearing a mask and trying not to get too close to people, which is easy because most steer clear of me. There are a few who still interact and we all head out for the "Norway in a Nutshell" tour,  first taking a train, then a bus to a ferry which will cruise one of the fjords.  Then to the Flam scenic railroad before heading back to Bergen.

Quite a few sheep and some cattle.
The countryside if very green, and very foggy, with wispy clouds floating everywhere.

This is where we get on the catamaran. The day is cool and rainy, not the best for photos, but the scenery is quite nice regardless. We arrive at the Naeroyfjord and take an electric boat through its UNESCO-protected scenery and onto the Aurlandsfjorden and Naeroydalen valley.  Probably a hundred or more waterfalls, some quite spectacular and several small hamlets.

The zig zag on the left is a road!

After the boat we grab a quick lunch before taking the Flam railroad through similar beautiful scenery.  Unfortunately the rain and fog continues with just a few peeks of sunshine. Obviously the travel photos to lure people are taken on the few sunny days.

Back to the hotel, I check on Greg and we pack for tomorrow.  He will take a taxi to the airport here in Bergen, while I will fly on to Copenhagen with the group.  Sad, but it would cost more to change my flights and all....and I am still feeling ok.

Go Ahead takes care of the extra room and meals and when we get home, he gets a nice voucher for future travel.  Our travel insurance, on the other had, requires a doctor's note, which we didn't get, and all original receipts - so we get nothing from them. Hmmmmm, guess I didn't read the fine print!
