9/8/22 Boulder, Meow Wolf, Denver

 9/8/22

Light breakfast at the hotel included biscuits and gravy, yogurt, good coffee.  We can't get into the rental house until 3:00 or so, so we decide to check out a few places before then.

First we head into Boulder and the Flat Irons, which are written up to be a "must see" place in Colorado. Boulder is home to University of Colorado and is a pretty large city now. We end up at the National Center for Atmospheric Research which is at the foothills of the Flat Irons.

From there, we take the Walter Roberts Weather Trail which is a nice trail on this beautiful day!

We see a group of Mule Deer just down a hill and enjoy watching and photographing them.   Kevin got some great pics on his iPhone 12!

I tell Anita about the scent of Ponderosa Pines - kind of a vanilla-ish sweet scent.

From Boulder we head into Denver and the Meow Wolf art exhibition.

I think it began in Sante Fe and there is also a show in Las Vegas - and I just found out that one is coming to Houston in 2024.  It is hard to describe!  Called an immersive, walk-through, interactive art experience, it features colorful and imaginative displays throughout a three story building.  Many rooms, some large, some small. Many doors, some open, some locked.  Both beautiful and bizarre.

We lose Kevin along the way and meet up later at their small cafe.  The last room we do is about the size of a darkened school gymnasium. (The flash took away from the look.)  The walls and the floors are interactive so walking around might leave a trail, or footprints that look like splashes.  Waving your arms near the wall might cause mushrooms or trees to grow, or send a shower of sparks.  This was way cool and Anita especially enjoyed it.

After Meow Wolf we stop by the Gemshow location, but it will not open till tomorrow.  Lots of activity, though, as vendors are setting up. Chap is in this building, but there is another building and lots of outdoor tents.  Plus there are other venues around town.

We next find the rental house which Beth's brother Tom has found.  5260 Wyandot Street - in a mixed neighborhood only a few miles from the Gemshow venue.  Nice house but could use a little extra TLC.

Greg and Anita go to the store for some supplies.  Soon Chap and Mam arrive, followed by John and Yvonne. We sure miss Tom and Sue not being able to be with us, but Tom has some medical treatments.

Lots of fun getting caught up!  Kevin talks with the owner to get the wifi and tv setup working and we fix some dinner.  Early night, as everyone is kind of tired from traveling.
