We relax this morning and re-pack before heading to Giovanni's, a neighborhood spot, to meet Kevin and Anita for lunch. It is a small but good restaurant with mainly pizza and sandwiches. Greg and I share a steak sub which is quite tasty. Anita and Kevin head back to work and we head towards friends in Abingdon, Maryland.
We avoid the freeways and continue through rolling farmland with cattle, sheep, cornfields and empty plowed fields (fallow?). Some pretty nice color
They have retired since we saw them 2 years ago, and it seems to agree with them! They take us for a short drive over to Havre de Grace, on the Chesapeake Bay where we walk the boardwalk. It is a sunny, beautiful day!
We crack a bottle of wine and Cathy fixes Swedish Meatballs - an old family recipe, not the more common kind - which are delicious and for desert a great apple pie. It is fun catching up and comparing notes about travel, grandkids, libraries, kayaking, their cats, and more. Wish we lived closer to each other!
Nice comfy bed - ahhhhhh. And a good night's sleep.
We talk about where we are headed next, and they offer some suggestions since Scott worked in the area with the Army Corps of Engineers. We will head north and east briefly and then turn south through the "Eastern Shore", that part of Maryland that is on the eastern side of the Chesapeake Bay. They lend us a book about the area, which has some great history and information about the various towns and sites.
