October 23 New Holland, Amish Country, PA

October 23,  A Day with Mom, Tuesday

Lovely morning at Mom's as we do a few odds 'n' ends of chores and share with Mom.  Enjoy her sour dough raisin bread, yum, at breakfast.  Then we head out to Intercourse, PA (next to Blue Ball!) to do a little shopping at Kitchen Kettle Village, a cute collection of shops with Jellies & Jams, Dolls, Quilts and many other craft shops, many featuring Amish country items.

Enjoy the Fall decorations and local landscaping and color.

Beautiful countryside abounds! We went by an Amish school where the kids were outside playing soccer - the girls in their long dresses and guys in long pants too.  Looked like they were having fun!

We stop by Yoder's, a local grocery store, and buy a couple of whoopee pies, which are a huge item around here! Baked goods, especially pies, are huge too.

For lunch we head to nearby Smoketown and stop at Joni's Diner for some tasty sandwiches.

Then head back to Garden Spot Village, where Mom lives.  We stop by Bob Smith's house to pick up some items and visit a bit with Bob and his friend Joan.  Mom gives us a brief tour of the gym facilities - quite nice - and the pool where she swims most days.

Later in the day we go downstairs for a light dinner.  Their Louisiana Gumbo is surprisingly good!
