This morning we set off early to find Parc Montmorency, so
had to cross the bridge into the city of Quebec. Quite a bit of traffic, even at 6:45. After testing Greg's ability to turn around (not to mention his patience) a few times, we reached our destination. Actually we found these pretty smaller Falls first, thanks to asking directions and not speaking French. :)
At the BIG falls, the parking and visitors center don’t open
till 9:00 so we were able to park for free and set out on the trail to the falls. (A lady we spoke to in the city yesterday said this would be ok.) There are a few others sightseeing and some
locals exercising on the stairs.
We are about 15 minutes from the city. |
The Falls are 272’ tall -
99’ higher than Niagra. The air
has been crisp and clear everywhere we have been and often has a wonderful
slight pine scent.
From here we begin to head west. We stop at a lovely church in a small town - Eglise St. Charles-Borromee Grondines. Even the smallest towns seem to have somewhat elaborate churches and most of them have steeples covered in silver colored metal.
Next is an old windmill. We are traveling the Chemin du Roy - King's Road, which was the first road to go from Quebec to Montreal. Every town has something to see, not necessarily worth seeing :)
We speak to Leonard, at an information center in Montebello next. He is very helpful and points us to the Metro grocery store a few towns over where re-stock a few items.
He also pointed us to the Park National de Plaisance where we opt to spend the night.
Very pricey,
we thought, as there is a park entrance fee per person, then $34 with no hookups and showers were extra. Though I keep forgetting that their dollar is about 75cents US. Good birdwatching spot and Beth had a nice
conversation with a neighbor, Pat from Ottawa. She asked, tongue in cheek, if we were going to move to Canada if Trump was elected. Then apologized, and said we are all welcome! Beautiful full moon night.
Saw Kingfisher and other birds, as well as black squirrels and some busy muskrats. Nice sites, quiet…and the showers were worth it.
