Low 50's this morning and sunny. We are all early risers, so by 7:30 Tom was cooking up some wonderful French toast. Yum! We visited a little longer and mapped out our route. Tom suggested going through Saguaro National Park's western part on the west side of Tucson, so that is where we headed.
The closer we got to the park, the more things were blooming. Though still a tad early, we were able to see blooming saguaro, ocotillo, choya, prickly pear and others. Lots of tiny flowers here and there too, made for a pleasing palette! We stopped at the visitor's center and watched a short film about the aura of the desert, conservation, and how the early Indians considered the saguaro as holding the spirit of their relatives.

After the park we headed to north Tucson and visited an LA Fitness on Ina Road - the location Sue had suggested. It was quite new and very nice. We worked out and then showered; ready to hit the road again. We then headed north and took I8 west to bypass Phoenix. The area is still very flat and still desert with a few irrigated areas of agriculture. We continue on the Joshua Scenic Parkway toward Kingman and there are quite a few Joshua trees! A lot of bright yellow trees, too, but I don't know what they are.
We find a little dirt road before Wickiup called Wildlife Refuge Road and Greg finds a great spot to boondock for the night.
There is a huge saguaro standing guard over us and we have fun taking photos.
Two vehicles passed us the whole time we were there, so it was quiet and peaceful!
