June 23, 2013 Denali

69 degrees at 8:00 this morning.   We visited Riley Mercantile to use their hot water facilities and wi-fi.  Cleaned up a bit and then headed for Teklanika campground, 29 miles into the Park Road.  Saw a gorgeous caribou, some sheep and a moose.

We put the screen room up in record time - those mosquitos provide incentive!

 Went with Jim and Margaret to catch the shuttle bus to Tolkat.  Once you are in the campground you can't drive, but there are shuttle buses that run another 90 miles into the park.  Talkat was about an hour and a half.  Saw dahl sheep, an elk, caribou and a ptarmigan.

The road was quite windy and steep at parts.  Beautiful vistas, mountains, valleys, rivers.

Back to campsite had dinner in screen room, joined by Jim and Margaret, Anne, Tom, Dave, Eileen.  Some folks are leaving because of the mosquitos, particularly Marty who has had a bad reaction.  Had a tuna salad, cheese and crackers, and ice cream sandwiches.  Went to a ranger talk - about scat - hah!
