October 5 Apple Festival

Saturday, October 5

Today we take off for the National Apple Festival in Adams County.  A bit of a drive and we arrive with lots of other folks, parking and catching a shuttle to the festival.  This is the second weekend of the two week festival and a beautiful day for it.  It is surrounded by orchards!

Displays of farm equipment,

demonstrations of shingle-making,
and everything you can think of made with apples -  we enjoy apple sausage sandwiches served with your choice of apple butter or sauerkraut (or both)!
Lots of other local specialties too.

And apples, of course.

Many booths of crafts from apple carvings to woodworking.   There are several bands playing also and plenty of bales of hay for seating.

 Fun day!

Back home, Anita and I take their dog Cody for a walk at nearby Codorus State Park.  They are less than a mile from this terrific park!

Anita shows her skill with an apple peeler - I'm so impressed!  It not only peels, but slices and cores the apple as well, in a fraction of the time I would take to do it with a knife!  I want one!  Anita makes a great apple crisp after a dinner of fish tacos.
