Sunday, October 18
We wake to 29 degrees at 6AM, but at least the sun is up and there is no rain. One of the co-captains from Team Oligo, Nick, arrives to ride with us, and we head into Boston.
The walk is held at Harborwalk, along Boston Harbor and we arrive with others who are doing set-up. Several companies have sponsored booths and there is coffee, snacks, information, etc. The various teams are made up of those with brain tumors (past and present) along with family and supporters. We distribute name tags and t-shirts to those who have registered with team Oligo, and have a few give-aways like gloves, water bottles, pens and tootsie-pops (all orange of course). Nice to see some faces familiar from previous years.
There is an initial welcome address, followed by a few speakers and reports on progress made against this disease in the past year. There are 2200 registered walkers today, and several hundred more who have showed up! Great turnout! Brett is one of many survivors present and Team Oligo again leads the field in fund raising, with Brett being top fundraiser!
Afterwards, Brett takes Nick home and we all meet back at Dave & Brett's for some nice hearty SanteFe chili. Brett checks in on the Sunday services he has missed.
Unfortunately Greg's brother Garth is not feeling too well, so his family doesn't make it today. But he and Kathy do join the family zoom, along with Mom, as we all catch up.
Brett and Dave pack for Europe - Paris, Tuscany, Rome! - as the rest of us re-pack Gwynne's car for the trek back to Pennsylvania tomorrow morning.
We all enjoy a farewell dinner at a nearby restaurant called Horseshoe Grille.
