Leaving the 100+ degree weather and heading to the mountains.  Problem is, it is a  LLLLOOONNNGGG  way across Texas to get to altitude!

The usual Texas landscapes, through Fort Worth and northwest to Amarillo.  Small towns, wind turbines, oil wells, more solar farms, and lots of flat.  Cattle, soybeans, goats, etc.  

Fortunately, Greg did NOT stop at Quanah.

Long day driving to Amarillo, where our usual Comfort Inn had no vacancy - not sure what's going on in town. Instead we tried the Cactus Cove which was adjacent to the Western Horseman Club.  Real western themes. "Kick off your boots and stay awhile!"  AC and shower worked and beds were fine for a night.
