August 9, 2024 Into Colorado, Garden of the Gods

 Friday, August 9

From Amarillo we head north through the Texas panhandle, a bit of New Mexico and then across Raton Pass into Colorado.  Rain accompanies us through the agricultural area, cattle and then past Capulin Volcano.

The rain comes and goes.  Cattle, pronghorns, wind turbines, grain silos and coal trains. Then, finally, into some mountains.

We have decided to re-visit the Garden of the Gods near Colorado Springs.  (We were here on our first trip to Colorado probably almost 50 years ago!)   The visitor's center is closed for a private event and the driving loop is quite busy despite the light rain.  It is still an impressive place!

We decide to spend the night at a Bass Pro Shop a few miles north - huge parking lot and there are already a few rv's here.  We shop a bit (Beth finds a Moon Pie!) and settle down for clam chowder.  Another RoadTrek from Arkansas parks near us and we enjoy chatting with them.  They are also on their second RoadTrek!'
