June 5, 2022 Back in the USA, North Dakota, Teddy R. National Park

Sunday, June 5

Forty-six degrees this morning as we do a quick stop at Tim Horton's again.  Great bagel, muffin and coffee.  Here, as in many McDonalds that we've visited, there seems to be a regular group of older men who meet for breakfast - at least Greg recognizes some of the same guys from yesterday morning!

We say goodbye to Winnipeg and head back towards the US border at Emerson, North Dakota.  The only issue we have is that we can't bring any citrus into the US - even though we have peeled it - we have to hand it over.

The roads are rough, and we have the same detour  that we ran into on the way north.  We are again in flat farmland, and when we begin to head west we find more of the same.  I believe beets are a huge crop here.  There are still some very wet areas and we see  these white pelicans on Long Lake.  Seagulls too, which just doesn't seem right in the middle of North Dakota!

Wind turbines begin to appear and we understand why, as the winds are strong.

We go through the small town of Rugby, which is the geographical center of North America, with this marker.

Greg comments that this isn't the first small town we've been through which posts pictures of all it's graduation class.

More farmland.  More trees as windbreak/snow fences.  We call in to join the Johnson family zoom call from Minot.

The GPS takes us on a few interesting roads and we start to ignore some of its short-cuts!
Some signs of oil drilling too.

Getting cloudier and we go through a bit of scatteredd rain.

Not a lot of traffic, and some is rather unusual.

We call Theodore Roosevelt National Park Campground and are told there are some sites available, but they have had some rain and are expecting more. And, there is no water at the North part of the park, which isn't a problem for us. The terrain changes and we see a few bison as we get near.

The rain has made for some very green countryside which contrasts nicely with the rock formations.

We claim site #45 in Juniper Campground, which is about 50% filled. The weather was good enough that Greg was able to grill burgers and we ate outside!
