9/8 Lancaster

Saturday, 9/8/2018

Today we did a little workout and had a nice breakfast with Mom.  Greg and I took a drive around the area.  Great thing about GPS on the phone - we could wander back roads wherever we wanted and then just put in Mom's address and get directions back.

Lots of farmland and small towns, though many of the small towns are expanding and farmland is shrinking.  There are organizations that raise money to save the farmlands.... just like the organizations to save the national parks, save the forests, save our waterways and more.  The hugely expanding population is destroying so much of our natural world - it's scary!

We stop by Shady Maple Farms Market - a great grocery store which features lots of local produce, meats, baked goods, and more, as well as many national brand items.  I grab a soft pretzel for a snack as we drive around.  Very overcast today with light rain now and then. These young folks were harvesting tobacco.

This evening we go to see the movie "Parental Guidance" with Bette Midler and Billy Crystal.  A cute, funny, entertaining film! 1:57Parental Guidance - Trailer.  The critics hated it but it had a 91% fan approval on Rotten Tomatoes, lol.   Interesting that this was showing, as on this trip Greg and I have been listening to Still Foolin' Em - a 7 set CD by Billy Crystal.  Basically one long stand-up routine about his life - very funny!

We packed for tomorrow and Mom found a spot here where we can leave the Trek while she, Gwynne, Greg and I head down to Chincoteague Island, VA for a Road Scholar Program. We are watching the weather as Hurricane Florence heads towards the east coast.  It is looking like it won't hit till after the program ends (Thursday AM).  Keeping our fingers crossed.
